Spork

Inspired by the tourist economy of souvenirs that depict the fork and spoon, a common subject matter in the Philippines, made me wonder about the relationship of the artisan to his/her audience. By carving a monumental spork, a common item found in fast-food, I wanted to explore the role of the artisan and my relationship to craft and kitsch. Also, in a globalized era, what are the cultural, social, and environmental implications of souvenirs and disposable objects?
